Is Hell Real?
It's a topic that we like to make fun of more than we like to study. It's a place we like to ignore or cover up for visions of heaven, and pretend we don't know what happens to those with whom we fail to share Christ.
We mock circuit-riding preachers for using hell to scare people into believing. We tell jokes about our least favorite politicians being sent there by St. Peter. We hear pastors, worldwide, express their personal preferences by calling it a figurative, rather than literal place. But through it all, the Biblical evidence for hell (particularly taking into account Jesus' words) is overwhelming.
But, defending the reality of hell isn't exactly what Christ called us to do. In our "Basics..." series, this week, I address how the reality of hell should convict us to be more honest about the reality of sin.
