July 4th - Dependence Day?

Our country has always been about "Independence" even since the pilgrims set foot on the New World.  We've been in a constant battle to separate ourselves from people and groups with whom we do not share basic principles of government, religion, and social freedom to a fault.  Unfortunately, the "American Dream," rooted in independence, has sent many believers adrift in a sea of misunderstanding about the kind of selfless existence to which Christ called us.

I remember years ago when one of my siblings craved independence, and it was during a time in my life when I suddenly realized the overrated nature of that coveted, conceptual condition of our country. I was suddenly compelled that true Biblical community is not about independence, but dependence.  Coming to terms with the fact that we ALL NEED God and that God helps us through the help of others forces us to realize that what keeps us humble and helps us grow and develop Spiritually is our need for others.

Sadly, one of the greatest business-world bloggers of the 21st century may have figured it out before the Church could.  Seth Godin has a keen eye for all things "truly authentic" in this world and in our country.  We could learn something from him: Seth's Blog: Autarky is dead.
