Trust vs. Security

Psalm 121

"1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the mountains: 2 My help cometh from Jehovah, 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel 5 Jehovah is thy keeper: 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day,  7 Jehovah will keep thee from all evil; 8 Jehovah will keep thy going out and thy coming in..."

When the song "Happy Birthday" first became famous, it was more about celebrating the life of the person whose birthday you were singing about.  Once the Warner Brothers got in on the deal it became all about protecting exorbitant royalties and copyright fees to make a studio VERY wealthy; for years (since 1935) that income has continued to roll in for that group of people who decided ownership was more important than fellowship.

We are a society obsessed with security and safety.  We have experienced generations of mistrust, abuse, and violence, and it has driven us to seek first "protecting ourselves" before seeking first "His kingdom."  For this reason, we opt for insurance above benevolence, investments above generosity, and "rights" above servanthood.

Ironically, it seems the only way God can "snap us out of it" sometimes is to remove whatever physical "security" we have gained.  Recession, depression, death, calamity, and various other untimely events fall on us swiftly, and no treasure or security is capable of covering for us; it is then that we suddenly look back to God and realize that He was all we ever needed to put our trust in, that He is there, and that (surprisingly, sometimes) He NEVER LEFT US!

You guys know my feelings on YouTube, by now, but this was a well-done slide show. Also, Steven Curtis Chapman now endorses and encourages slideshow builds using his music; that was a totally unacceptable justification for this likely illegal video...   :$
